The LLEF is intended to provide funding from its endowment to further the goals of the club with a particular focus on youth development. The Fund’s genesis was in 2018 with the passing of longtime club stalwart Malcolm MacAfee, a 40-year veteran of the Loyalists whom was rarely off the field in any capacity.
Malcolm’s passing created the concept, and it was two founding donations that have brought the Fund to reality. The first was in 2020 by the family of Ray Boucher with a generous $10,000 donation as the Club had become his second home after moving to Fredericton from Montreal in 1981.
The second donation came from the family of James ‘J’ McKay, a long time player and member of the board who purchased the land for our current home. J was instrumental in the clubhouse and grounds becoming a reality, and was a key member of the 1979 Caledonia Cup winning squad. The McKay family gifted another generous $10,000 on his behalf.
The Fund will support the Loyalists Rugby Club in perpetuity, and will be an opportunity for alumni, players, and supporters to recognize their appreciation for the club through a one-time or monthly donations. The Canadian Rugby Foundation was selected for investment as in addition to their proven experience, they offer donation matching and are a sound establishment to ensure the long-term health of the Fund and Club.
Please contact us if you'd like any more information, and you can Donate Here (under the "Fund" drop-down, select Loyalists Legacy Endowment Fund). We cannot speak enough about the members and the families who have enabled us this outstanding opportunity; we are forever indebted to them and the Fredericton community.
